In summer 2021, the Moxy Cologne-Bonn Airport opened at Konrad Adenauer Airport with an unusual interior design. The project, developed by Art-Invest Real Estate, was handed over to the Chocolate on the Pillow Group - which operates the hotel under a franchise licence from Marriott International - on schedule after a construction period of 1.5 years. Büro Brumann was commissioned with the interior design and as general contractor for the interior fit-out & FFE for the new lifestyle hotel.

The five-storey hotel was built on a former car park according to the plans of JSWD Architekten from Cologne and has a direct connection to the terminal and the ICE train station. The pentagonal floor plan and the ribbon-like façade are based on the design language of Terminal Building 1 by Prof. Schneider v. Esleben, which was built in 1970. The centrepiece is the fifth floor, from which guests and visitors have an impressive panoramic view of the airport grounds and the tarmac.

The interior design concept plays with details and associations with the city of Cologne in all areas and primarily with the explorer fever of a young, globetrotting target group. In a playful way, guests and visitors are taken on an exotic road trip, awakening longings for exciting places and country-specific ‘souvenirs’. The collector's items and decorative objects in the large lounge area provide plenty of inspiration for souvenirs. The storytelling is emphasised by rough materials, leather upholstery and metallic objects, which, in combination with the concrete ceilings and walls, create a modern, design-oriented industrial vintage look. Before setting off on a journey, the simple and functional design of the 220 rooms is intended to ground and energise globetrotters.

In the public areas, guests and business travellers can hold meetings in the working areas or in the five conference rooms. A modern fitness area or the spacious restaurant area including roof terrace can be used for relaxation. There are details and eye-catchers everywhere. There are travel stamps in the bar area, suitcase stickers as wallpaper in the lifts and, last but not least, guests can discover a diverse lost property office of objects on the hanging metal grids. The oversized compass floor motif can provide orientation. It guides the world explorers and opens up various paths out into the wide world.
