Located near Morsum Cliff, Landhaus Severin*s is designed as a relaxed, luxury hideaway, a retreat for couples or for small, exclusive wedding parties. Since the individual layouts did not allow for any standardisation, they required completely customised finishing and furnishing solutions. As the planner and general contractor, Brumann implemented these to the highest quality and within the planned time frame.
The large Frisian building in the nature reserve, built in 1977, housed the ‘Landhaus Nösse’ for many years, where Jörg Müller cooked his way to two Michelin stars in his restaurant. In 2003, it changed ownership and became the Hotel Morsum Cliff; in 2014, the Bremen Zech Group acquired the property. The stunning, quiet location with a magnificent view over the Wattenmeer mudflats presented great challenges for the planning. In the nature reserve, structural changes and spatial enlargement were virtually impossible. Accordingly, our planners found that each of the rooms had a completely different layout and geometry. The challenge in terms of the interior design was greater than usual, in order to create a connecting aesthetic across the different rooms.
In the bathrooms, which are relatively small by today’s standards, the goal was to achieve modern sanitary comfort and an impression of spaciousness. The new spa area in the basement enhances the wellness facilities with a sauna and steam bath with natural stone surfaces and flotsam-like faded timbers. The colonnade around the circumference provides access to the adjoining areas and makes particularly economical use of the limited space. The indoor and outdoor catering for up to 120 guests/day visitors was also given a stylish facelift. The interior concept of the café-restaurant reflects the surrounding countryside, dissolving the boundaries between inside and outside. Sand tones, the earthy red hues of the Morsum Cliff, and the aqua palette of the mud flats and clouds blend with the whitewashed oak floors, solitary blooms and touches of dark contrasting colours to form a bright, airy and elegant overall concept.
