With the “Le Doux Souvenir – a Tribute Portfolio Hotel,” the former Voltaire Hotel in the heart of Potsdam is currently being transformed into a standalone hospitality concept featuring 144 rooms. The project combines history, ambiance, and contemporary design to create a rich, immersive experience. The operator is The Chocolate on the Pillow Group (COTP). The owner and developer is the Hofgarten Karree KG fund, managed by the BEB+ Group.
The project involves the complete gutting of the approximately 8,800 m² existing building. The listed front building from 1736 is being renovated and supplemented by a new courtyard building from 1995. In addition to the guest rooms, a restaurant, a bar, two meeting rooms, and a sauna and fitness area are planned. 41 underground parking spaces complete the offering.
The design concept, developed using a design-build approach by Brumann in collaboration with Waald, centers on the snow globe as a leitmotif. Each room is staged as a microcosm—inspired by Potsdam’s multifaceted history and translated into a deliberately exaggerated, narrative design.
The interior design works with contrasts, soft forms, and reflective materials. Iconic elements, custom-developed surfaces, and detailed wall installations create a curated overall look. The bathrooms also take up the motif: colorful, glossy tiles and light reflections create the impression of floating movement. Thus, a spatial concept that combines a sense of security with dramatic presentation is established right from the planning stage.
