A successful revival for Berlin’s iconic Marlene Bar. As part of the comprehensive modernization of the historic Intercontinental Hotel, Brumann was commissioned as the general contractor for interior construction and furnishings, including the renovation of the historic “Marlene Bar” and its restaurant. Based on a design concept by the London-based firm Goddard Littlefair, the bar has once again become a well-known hub of Berlin’s nightlife following the renovation.
Goddard Littlefair creates a classic, modern look with black marble-effect tiles, dark wood paneling, mirrored floor tiles, and gold-shimmering brass elements. Thanks to a continuous new ceiling line, the overall appearance now appears lighter, brighter, and more inviting to hotel guests. The long, open bar counter visually stands out as a striking highlight for visitors. The furniture combines metropolitan glamour with rugged, classic chic.
As a specialist in hotel interior construction, Brumann, acting as the general contractor for all trades, finalized this design on-site with the operator and in coordination with Goddard Littlefair. Economically optimized and, above all, adapted for functionality in the bar/kitchen area, demolition work and the dismantling of the bar were carried out first in order to subsequently implement the new concept. A modernization of the technical systems and connections, as well as modern kitchen and bar equipment, were also included in the plans. Delivery of FF&E and decoration took place at the end of the project phase. The renaissance of the Marlene Bar and the new atmosphere it brings convinced the operating company. Sebastian Germershausen, General Manager of the InterContinental Berlin, says, “The InterContinental Berlin is a labor of love for me—and I am very happy to have such an outstanding team by my side. With this modernization, we are preserving the soul and magic of the hotel while bringing it up to date in terms of design, user-friendliness, and sustainability.”
